There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written… That is all.

Somehow the 50ies seem to be important for this library. And I am not talking about the 1950ies but about public transport lines featuring the number 50. You can reach us with almost all of the 50-lines: by trams 52 and 58 or by bus 57A. Once you have made it to our branch you could easily miss it in this huge block of buildings, which also accommodates an elementary school, a music school, and the "Haus der Begegnung". Well, you could miss it, but you won't: our pram-friendly ramp with the orange-red metal canopy is a unique eye-catcher.

But our library's true beauty is on the inside. The premises look as new and clean as if the last major refurbishment had taken place yesterday and not in 2004. In addition, a large front facade and skylights lend more light to the rooms than is actually available in Vienna during wintertime. Our unique children’s area is particularly inviting – it features a slide and a bull's eye through which you can watch what is going on outside. We know that you are not one of those parents who mistake our children’s area for a playground. That’s why we don't have to tell you that there is a park nearby in case your kids want to play. And the Technical Museum is within walking distance as well, shame the same cannot be said for parking spaces. So, if you insist on driving to the city in your four-by-four, don't wonder why parking spaces are scarce.

In our library there is sufficient room for everyone, meaning people from all cultures and all age groups. One way to take into account the cultural diversity is our emphasis on Turkish, Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian, and English. Emphasis is also put on women's issues with a special focus on emancipation and – no, that’s no contradiction! – fashion. Another focus is on literature on issues of interest for young people. If you are part of this target group you will know what issues we are talking about and if not, let’s not go into this right now ...

By the way, we are happy to personally assist your offspring at any time should they need help in researching or doing their homework (for which purpose they may also use the Internet workstations). And we strictly abide by our slogan "Service instead of Self-Service". Talking about slogans, we will let you in on the motto for our novels: There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written… That is all. We did not come up with this, Oscar Wilde did. And he is supposed to know a bit about literature as well.

Music and adult education centres (VHS) – that’s what we are dealing with time and time again. That's one of the reasons why we have a well assorted inventory of music and language-learning media and – believe it or not – why we offer events for children "only", and not for adults. All the things we would like to offer you in this respect are taken care of by the adult education centre. Well, it's all about connections!
